Hello friends! It is finally the weekend, and a warm one at that with a high today of 83 degrees. So enjoy the beautiful weather and the Best. Week. Ever. There are only two days left, so make sure you don’t miss out on all the fun.
Start your morning off bright and early either by participating in the Sunburst Races from Four Winds Field to University of Notre Dame from 6:30-10a.m. or being the best Best Sunburst Fans Ever and cheering them on in the Sunnymede Neighborhood from 7-8:15a.m. The Best Week Ever staff, myself included, will be their at the finish line cheering you on!
Or begin your morning with some golf during Play Your Best Round Ever Elbel and Erskine Golf Course from 7:10a.m.-8p.m.
Also, pay tribute to those who have bravely served our country during Military Appreciation Day at Potawatomi Zoo from 10a.m.-5p.m. This event will feature organizations that are dedicated to helping current members of the military, veterans, and their families. Free admission to veterans, active military, and reserve/guard with proper identification. Ticketing for families (up to five members per veteran) are $6.50 for those 15 and over, $5.50 for children between the ages of 3-14, and free for those under 3 years old. Also, make sure to stop by and say HI the best Best. Week. Ever staff and check out our cool prizes and merchandise.
Then stop by the O’brien Center for the Best O’Brien Experience from 10a.m.-3p.m. There you can play with large checkers and chess boards, life size connect 4, bounce houses, concessions, and much more! Test your strength with the "Best Lift Ever" and enjoy our fitness classes. Also, initiation fees the month of June and July will be waived if you sign up for a membership. There will also be light refreshments during the open house, a drawing for a free membership, and t-shirt giveaways.
I know you will be craving ice cream, especially on this hot day so head on over to the I Scream, You Scream, Ice Cream with Pet Refuge event at Pet Refuge Inc. from 11a.m.-3p.m. There you can enjoy the sweet, cold ice cream while meeting all their adorable animals up for adoption. Tell me...what is better than that?
Also, going on around the same time is Bubbles and Suds with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Century Center from 11a.m.-4p.m. So go on enjoy the classical sound of the Orchestra while having fun!
If you are hungry, which you probably are at this point in the day, come check out Polkas and Pierogi at Knights of Columbus from 11a.m.-5p.m.
Make sure you don’t miss the Best Family Party Ever in Howard Park from 12-3p.m. There will be free food and drinks, as well as fun activities for all ages. All activities will be free, including live music, a face painter, balloon artist, caricaturist, and games for kids. Additionally, there will be tables from local non-profits that will provide information about important community issues and how to get involved.
Also, try out the Best Challenge ever in Howard Park from 12-4p.m. where you can compete in farmer's carries, atlas stones, yoke walk and log presses competitions. Winners of each category will win East Race Muscle gear. Participants can come and go during the challenge.
Not in the mood for competition? No problem head on over to the East Race and explore the Best Arts on the Race Ever from 12-5p.m. or check out the second day of Riverlights Music Festival in Seitz Park from 12-5p.m. Both events are within walking distance, so if you can’t decide then go to them both! Also, the Best. Week. Ever staff will be there so make sure to stop by and see what we have to offer!
Get moving with the Family. Fit. Fun. event in Downtown South Bend from 12-5p.m. Have fun with experiences and games aimed at creating a sense of family and fitness. Old and new generations can participate in dance contests, cheerleading, hula hooping, jump roping, and much more!
Or bring on the charm at the Fine Arts Building for the Pendant Art at Fine Arts event from 12-5p.m. where you can decorate a pendant. There are various designs to choose from and it only costs $12.
Keep your day moving, and on a fast pace I might add with water rafting on the East Race from 12:30-5p.m. It costs $5 a ride and make sure to wear appropriate clothing.
So lift that pinky high and stop on by My Sister's Keeper Best Tea Party at Potawatomi Conservatories from 3-5:30p.m. where you and your daughter can enjoy a variety of small sandwiches and tea.
Then be ready to rock with So Much for the Afterglow - 20th Anniversary Tour at Four Winds Field from 7-11p.m. where you can jam out to Fastball, Vertical Horizon and Everclear! Everclear is donating $1 per ticket sold to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. This organization provides financial assistance to career musicians, venue workers, production staff, crew members, and their families suffering from injury, illness or disability.
